    Hi all,

curious if anyone here owns a surface grinder or maybe has a good friend ( ;) ) with one? I have two small parts (max 2.5" dia) which might need touching up on a surface grinder to get surfaces parallel.

    Regards,
    Tom

    Hi,

it's something like this (two parts):

I'd need the top / bottom skimmed ie. on the bigger piece the top / bottom needs to be parallel and perpendicular to the side walls and on the smaller piece the top / bottom needs to parallel and perpendicular to the inner bore side walls. Not sure about the material, some hardened steel (61-63HRC) but dunno what type (guess was 01 tool steel). It's not super urgent, I can wait a week or so:)

    Regards,
    T.

Hmmm. The larger piece should be ok, I work a cylindrical grinder and may be able to pack the face out a little if it is out to the bore but not much before the mag loses its strength. The smaller piece will be more tricky because the inner part of the mag does nothing. I could possibly hone the larger face and then skim the opposite face parallel but then I wouldnt be able to square up to the bore.
