Hi I am a bit confused, pretty new to the cnc world.

I have been looking for some replacement stepper motors for my Chinese 6040 router (in the middle of replacing all of the electronics)

I have been looking at steppers in the 3.1nm range but have read elsewhere that this is not the most crucial spec.

The 6040 is not a large router and has a fairly lightweight gantry etc made from aluminium. Would I be better off getting a stepper with a lower nm (say 2.2nm) that matches the amps of the 3.1nm counterpart (4.2A), with a lower inductance 2.5mH as opposed to 3.2mH?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks for any help.

Anyone got any ideas on this???

    Cheers

Yes go with smaller motors and the lower inductance for this machine if you have no intentions of reusing the motors on larger machine.
In general smaller motors spin faster due to lower inductance and lower rotor inertia.

If you plan on re-using then No you'll probably be better with 3.1Nm and lowest inductance you can find.

In both cases Go with 8 wire motors and wire parallel.

Great, I've got no need to upgrade at the moment but it's food for thought. Definitely going the 8 wire parallel route.

    Thanks Jazz
