I would very like to build a simple CNC 3 axis mackine ,but dont know where to start.
As a new machinist and OAP I'v a lot of time on my hands,a fertive mind ,and a small amount of cash to play with.
I'm very interested in finding plans for a DIY cnc machine but not one in MDF ... I don't think it is suffiently robust to be accurate over a period of time without frequent recalibrating. What I want is to get a set of plans that I can take to a machining company and produce the specialised pieces in Alumimium or similar. Purchase the lead-screws, servos and ascociated electronics and make a semi-profesional CNC plotter witha base area of approx 50 x50 Cms,with an accuracy of 1/10 mm. Am I aming too high?

Those don't sit comfortably with the idea of taking the design to an engineering firm.
If you have time and little money then the diy approach is surely the most obvious. Have you looked at some of the extruded ally frame designs that are about (i.e on cnczone)?
