Thread: Would this work for a frame?

Hi again. Excuse the crappy drawing. But you should get an idea of what I mean.
O.k. I'm planning on using 100x50mmx3mm steel for the main frame, this will be welded by a friend. External dimensions would be 1200x900mm.
I would like to use 20mm square rail with a singular block bearing on each rail, should I use 2?
Could I mount the rails on the side of the frame instead?
This line through the middle is meant to be a ballscrew, haha. Would 16mm be o.k and would it be o.k through the middle of the machine?
I'm hoping to make the gantry out of 80mmx40mmx2mm to keep weight down. Would this be ok?
Will a 4nm stepper be o.k to move the gantry nicely?
What would the likely working space be if the design works?
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, it's been a LONG Day.

single balscrew on long axis is not ok for this size, IMO for wider than 400mm working area.
if you plan to cut foam use 1 if you plan to cut wood use 2.
you could but you will need a fixture to align them. I greatly recommend not to do this on a first build. You will have enough another things to do.
you should draw the gantry. its difficult to decide without knowing what we are talking about
1 ball screw as i said before is not a good idea.
Draw, calculate weight, desired speed and then we will see if ok or not.
first decide working space and then design
Makes sense. You want a machine and dont know from where to start. Meanwhile must learn to draw. We have been there.
So lets start anew:
preliminary preparation:
-read some threads and build logs
-OMG i can do it myself and better or i will follow a proven design.
1.What you want to do exactly with the machine?
2.How much money you would like to spend
3.What would be the working area
4.What would be the Z height travel
5.is that all achiavable with the money you have in mind.
6. make a decision and start to draw

Thanks again. Sorry if this thread seems a bit spammy but I really didn't know where to start. You've been a great help. I appreciate it.
