These lads deal with a lot of Wadkin machines, maybe they can help ?

i found the manuals for lots of there machines but not the one am looking at, although the company that service them said they would send me one if i cover the printing and postage. i think i found the manual for the bosh controller but am fairly sure i will have to replace the full gubbins

Am going to have a look at one of these on monday/tuesday, am guessing that it will need a full refit , but if the beds not bent and the rails guides are ok, i will give it a go.

These old Wadkins change hands on Ebay for around £1000-1500 and if you have the space they are a good buy in my opinion. I have seen some good mach conversions and for bulk processing stuff like guitar bodies and necks they are ideal. I remember seen some high end videos of guitar factories in the US and they were using machines like this for 3d profiling the wood stock.

Getting old parts is going to be hard and expensive. best bet would be new servo motors, budget £3-4000 for a new set of good quailty chinese servo packs.

    Hi,

I am expecting to replace the full gubbins, but have the spindle and other parts serviced. Allthough, if the servoes do work, it will be a bonus. If i have read the spindle paperwork correctly ( fast browse, will read through later ), it will go from 1500 - 20k+, so should be capable of doing some stone, engraving at least, idealy, be able to surface a gravestone and engrave it.

i was sort of hoping to do the full re-fit, for around 3 or 4k at the most. If the servos and drives need replacing, they dont have to be industrial grade as its not going to be the main machine or running more than a few hours a day, ( am building that ), i just thought its a very good large machine base to start with, as long as the rails arnt bent,

I suupose a good question for me to ask advise on is

what would you check if you was going to have a look at a large machine of this type., apart from screws and rails. Am not sure there is power were it is so i might have to take a Jenny down there or rent one, any advice welcome

Chances are the Motor drives use -/+ 10v analog signals rather than step and direction signals in which case you may just get away with changing out the controller for one that can output analog signals. Like the CSMIO-IP-A.
Also you'll need shed load of inputs to keep most of it's functions so be aware that what ever you Control it with will need to provide plenty of Inputs.!!. . . Standard parallel port won't be much use here. . .Lol

WADKIN ROUTER CNC TWIN HEAD 2 VACUUM PUMPS UX2LC C3 BOSCH CONTROL CC100 MACHINE | eBay

Is it this machine? Looks like it is being stored in an open sided shed. Most meaningfull checks need the machine to be under power. A test for backlash in the screws might be usefull and listen to the spindle for bearing issues.

    yes it its,

am currently trying to see if i can power it when i inspect it, but for the price i might get it for ( pluss delivery costs ), it probably worth it for the frame and rails,

That has been on for quite a while now. I had it on my watch list as I thought it looked good value especially as it includes 2x vac pumps. It is certainly worth making an offer IMHO. Good luck. G.
