What are the spindle bolts? Photo again please. What do you mean "fragile in size"? What you call a guide strip is usually called a "gib strip"...

The guide strip is heavily corroded, as the photo also shows. The strip is also fragile in size, and the spindle bolts do not seem to have any grip.
