Good morning,
I am new to the world of home 3d routers, and am in the process of specing out the design for a machine. Approx 1500x1000x300.
My thought is to use hiwin 20mm rails and appropriate carriages.
Who would you recommend I source these from. Im not looking for ultimate high end quality. But will be used for mainly wood, some carbon fibre, possibly a, little aluminium.

Look forward to your advise

Justin

Fred at BST Automation is the place for Hi-win and ball screws. Mention the Dean from this forum sent you and you'll get a good price.

One word of caution that 300mm in the Z-axis will significantly weaken the machine so make sure you build it and the Z-axis very strong. Also with ball-screws over 1500mm long you will get whip at higher speeds, so selecting the correct diameter and pitch is very important.

Thank you for the advice. I think I will begin a build log in the near future. The more recommendations through the design and build process the better

15mm rails are more than strong enough for a hobby wood router. 20mm are sometimes easier though because of bigger bolt holes and being a bit taller match up with ball nut height better.

Yes. I think I will go with 20mm, purely because of convience of size
