Hi all, This is my small build. Base is made of structural concrete and the rest is just some steel box tubing for the gantry and some 20mm aluminum brackets and plates. Nema23 3nm closed loop steppers, ballscrews etc...

Work in progress...

Would you like to share the aggregate ingredients, % of all ingredients and the type of resin. I also want to build , i am almost done with the design but i am looking for proper aggregate now. Thanks !

Hi Lee, thanks...
All the parts were made by this machine. It has evolved over the last year... It all started with a 3018 from aliexpress lol

Sure... It's not epoxy resin. It's structural concrete with internal steel reinforcements (the same concrete used in bridges, etc).
So far so good.

It's already done for you inside the bags.
Pre-mixed, just have to add water :calm:

Understood, I went on to watch the vids after I posted, looks good :)

Still what one did you use the finish looks really smooth, any tricks to that ?

The mix is done with fine sand, that's why the finish is not rough. Applied primer, sanded a bit and then painted it. It's not that perfect, but the performance is what matters at the end. :)

Lucky you. Pms share the name on the mix, i wanna see the technical data sheet and see what i can find close to it locally

Here it is the manufacturers site page for this product I've used.
It seems to be only available in Portuguese language.
This is the best I can do for you.

What about this probe, how you finding it, accuracy etc?

P.S Is it still v6: 3D Touch Probe Edge Finder (https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExggNbl) ???

Yes Lee, V6.
I like it a lot, and it's not crazy expensive.
I want to install it permanently onto the spindle mount, this will allow me to set zero without having to do a tool change.

Hi guys,

One year after designing and 3D printing a prototype that failed because it wasn't water proof, finally machined the housing from aluminum.
I'm really happy with how it came out.
It was a really cool project.

Hope you enjoy it too.

Spray paint.
One day will anodize all the aluminum parts.

Ok I thought so, keep an eye on the internal paint, the coolant *could* react with the paint and make it dissolve/flake off and block your spindle internal tubes, it should be ok I think but something to check later...

I'll keep an eye on it. I was hesitating to paint the interior bore, but I thought if i didn't try I would not know :nevreness:

Thanks for your tip Lee

Tomorrow will try to make this project.
Been dreaming for a on-board probe for a long time.
Hope it goes well... in CAD always looks nice Lol

Today machined the other 2 parts for the on-board probe assembly.
Never had to do parts so small and with 3 side operations.
Project is not finished yet and it's been a hard task lol
Here's some pics and a short video of a test probing Z.

Still got to paint all the parts black and 3D print the XYZ lettering in orange/red...

Prototyping the connections and cable management to look as clean as possible.
So that I don't even have to plug and unplug the USB to the probe.
Looking sexy...

Nice!, it will be interesting to find out if you run into any sensitivity issues when you run a probing command, I know someone who has done a similar setup but using a linear actuator rather than a motor, the stop/start forces as gentle as they are, cause his specific (similar style) probe to detect the movements as tip indications/false contacts with the part as the probe moves down ready to be used.

Hi,
My probe only gets connected when it gets to the final position.
You can see that happening int these videos.
