Sorry if this is the wrong place.

After looking around at the various options its left me with even more questions. What I can't tell is which maker is actually good. There's a plethora of inexpensive motors out there but what I don't want to do is buy one that barely lasts the warranty period.

Can anyone point me at a make with proven reliability/longevity?

Spec I'm looking at is ER20/80mm body/air cooling preferred but would consider water cooling/2.2Kw or a little higher/suitable inverter that can be remote controlled.

I have 415v 3 phase at home so powering industrial controls wouldn't be an issue.

A watercooled spindle will last far longer than any brushed motor, plus be far quieter in operation, so I'd personally get a 2.2kw (or lower powered if the size suits better).

I wouldn't bother with 3 phase at 2.2KW, as if the rest of the machine is single phase, it just needlessly complicates things.

Fair enough. I put the note on about 3 phase because it opens up other options.

As yet I've only found one UK company selling these motors (as a complete kit) but they've been out of stock for a long time. Are there any recommended suppliers here in the UK?

You could try getting in touch with Dean at jazzcnc.co.uk
He may have a motor that he is willing to sell.

CNC4YOU appear to list vfd+water-cooled 2.2KW kits in stock. Not the cheapest compared to direct-from-China but I've been running one of their motors for years. A Huan Yuang (spelling?) VFD from somewhere else, though, and a cheap 12V caravan water pump running off 5V.
