Hi All,

For those into additive manufacturing, as well as the subtractive, here's some news on a "new" type of 3D Printer about to make it to the more affordable end of the market World Maker Faire 2012: Formlabs Form 1 3D Printer - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzpVtkwkxMc)

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) next I hope :-)

As someone said in another thread , its a bit like the days of 8bit micros for micro manufacturing /3d printing.

Wondering if Fused Deposition Modelling, FDM, melted plastic filament may be the betamax against new crop of photosensitive resin printers VHS , or is that the VIC20`s against the Spectrums ;-)

Formlabs is kinda traditional SLA in that it uses a scanning laser

Few appearing using DLP video projector:

3 D L P rint » New Video – 4 rings (http://3dlprint.com/2012/02/new-video-4-rings/)

3d printer reduced to the essentials:

Sedgwick 3D DLP. 3D DLP Printer Kit (http://sedgwick3d.com/p/1/3d-dlp-printer-kit)

Mechanics appear to be reduced to an accurate Z axis....

Interesting times

Cheers

Like we talked about in another thread, this is the beginning of the 2nd industrial revolution .Personally I think it’s probably the dawn of the new age for mankind. The amalgamation of powerful affordable home computing, with powerful affordable home manufacturing. The way I see it we will be producing the ideas and Asia the mass production power. If it anything like the 80’s and the Sinclair spectrum, there are very interesting times ahead for sure Adam. But I think it will get very interesting when they 3d print DNA matched human tissue, my Dad who’s kidneys have stopped functioning may be too late to benefit, but I am 100% sure that I will in the future. When someone said a few years ago the first person to live to a 1000 years old was already born I was slightly sceptical but now after seeing that video and it being able to produce soft rubber with voids, I’m thinking maybe they were right?

A lot of interest in the Formlabs, the kickstarter is 15 times over goal with 21 days to go...

B9Creator went 10 times over goal at only 1/2 million dollars, Form1 hitting 1.5M USD already, going to be mopping up the market for ex BluRay diode lasers for a while...

Sedgwick design was really unlucky not to reach its minimal funding level, anything with 3D printer in title seems to get massive on Kickstarter.

Even a 3D Printer show in London in a couple of weeks

Jazz's vertical mounted CNC is also giving me ideas (got to get mine built horizontally first of course) :-)

I was going to start ordering bits for a prusa this month, as it would come in handy for some bits I'd like to build, but I've just spent this months budget on a big lump of cast iron instead.

I seen the B9 creator, and I was looking for more details about how it works, however it currently seems to be more closed source than the claimed open source. The basic process seems simple enough, however these things are all in the detail :-/
