Hi,

I think I bought some 8mm delrin nuts off you from ebay. Any chance you can make the same nuts in 10mm. If so how much?

The 8mm nuts are excellent even using cheap threaded rod, thinking of trying screwfix stainless steel.

When I ordered my lovejoy couplers from the states the guy sent 10mm . At the moment they're doing ok with some tubing as padding.

What sort of price each would they be?

I bought a die and tap set at christmas but it only goes up to 8mm.

Also dont seem to see you on ebay anymore. Have you stopped selling?

I can send you some 8mm SS threaded rod, think thats about £3 a lenth to me.

I also have some of these:
http://www.mycncuk.com/ebay/images/couplings/main.jpg

They are £7 each to you :)

The drive nuts would be £4 each, i will need to see how they turn out as i'v not done any with M10 holes, they should be ok but just to let you know. Just PM me if you would like to order the above :) and ill send you a paypal invoice ?

The couplers look the same as mine. Are they lovejoy couplers? Would I be able to have them with both sides the same, 8mm?

These are the ones I have http://buildyourcnc.com/stuffforsale.aspx (halfway down)

I dont know as i'v never had any lovejoy's before, looking at the lovejoys they fall into the "Jaw" type but i dont know if you could mix and match them if thats what you mean.

8mm bores on both sides is no problem.

It looks the same. What about I buy 1 8mmx8mm now and if it doesnt fit ill buy a 6,35x6,35 to make a pair.

Hold on the delrin nuts for now although I may build a cnc to sell and will need them for that.

Email an invoice and ill pay with paypal.

Lee,

I don't suppose you can do 12mm x 3mm RH trapezoidal thread Delrin nuts, can you? I've had two goes now at making a tap from bits of lead screw, but both have been too soft to cut the bits of molybdenum filled Nylon I have - they end up twisting.

I also need a couple of 300mm lengths of 20mm round rail, four carriages and four support brackets, as I've decided to change the design of my Z axis.

Just to be clarify ....these delrin drive nuts, would allow me to connect my M8 threaded rod (lead screw), to my stepper motor shaft (which I think is 6.35mm - from recollection).

Would these need any modd'ing or are they ready to rock?

If so, could you please quote me for 3 of them (inc delivery - UK based )

No they are used as nuts that run up and down your threaded rod, as the motor turns the threaded rod your axis table moves :).

Now I'm confused.

the post is entitled Delrin Drive nut (& it was always my interpretation that a drive nut is like the pic you've just posted above!), but in post 5 on this same thread (ie back on page ), has this photo...

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2282/mainaga.jpg (http://img15.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mainaga.jpg)

in that photo they look like couplers? (so the thread morphed a little & confused me!)

(original post - MYCNCUK - View Single Post - Delrin drive nut (lee) )

Do you still sell the pictured couplers as mentioned in the photo in 'post 5' of this thread for £7 each? (specifically M8 threaded rod to stepper shaft of 6.35mm diameter)

I reckon there's a good business op for someone to knock these couplers out at a reasonable 'pack of three' cost! (as all the couplers I've seen to date would mean if I bought them, it would result in more cost than the rest of my whole CNC build!)

The thread is about drive nuts, but in post 5 he says "I also have some of these" above the couplers photo.

Tks...cleared that one up...so to my point, does anyone still sell these couplers ...M8 threaded rod to 6.35mm stepper motor shaft for seven quid a piece?

Hi lee can you make 10x2 trap nuts similar to the nut blocks you made me before?

Lee if you get stuck for taps and dies mate just let me know, we use M3 right through to M20.

Just do your batch and send them back its up to you fella

Just do your batch and send them back its up to you fellaDo you have taps for TR10x2D and TR10x2G (therse are trapezoidal thread, RH and LH)? Many of us have taps n dies for standard metric threads, those are rarely the problem, its the more esoteric ones that cause problems...

10x2 trap.....humm no i think the only one i'v got is 1/2" 10x2 in ACME. I can send you some delrin and you could grab a tap from ebay ?

I thought of buying some delrin block from ebay. I have some delrin 10x2 round nuts but they are a pain to mount unlike the block ones you supplied.

How straight forward is it to make a tap using a length of trapezoidal screw ?

Lee Roberts

Humm...

Of the three tap types, there is a tapered tap for the initial thread cutting, an intermediate type, this is used to progress the thread.

Finally, a "Bottoming" tap, this is used to obtain the full thread depth when cutting a thread that does not go the whole of the way trough the piece. (Your hole to be tapped has a bottom to it AKA (pocket).

So you would put a taper on it and then some slots/flutes:

put a 4" length of trap rod in a drill chuck or lathe. Spin it up and apply a file to the last inch to taper it to the thread depth. Lock the chuck or hold rod in vice) and grind 3 'slots' at 120deg for 3" using a thin cutting disc (or file it if you feel up to it). lastly file the untapered end to a square.

Good enough for delrin. For a tigher finish lightly file the overall thread by about 0.05 - 0.1mm

I did it and it works... for nylon or acetal a few times... but wont do brass without hardening...
