Hey guys, im in the process of building the new machine and i was wondering.... Can the chinese spindles be converted to accept automatic tool changing, or do i have to buy a new spindle all together?
P.S mine is the 2.2KW spindle

Jonathan has made a post on this somewhere on here, but I am not sure how far he has got with it, or got side tracked. From what I have read it is a bit of a none starter. ..Clive

Let us know what you find - I'd like auto tool change even it were just 2 tools.

Hi,
some of the eBay sellers of the 2.2kW spindles also offered a 3kW version with automatic toolchanger.
I haven't seen them for a while but I think the price was about $1500. Maybe they still offer them if you contact a seller.
Converting a spindle is very difficult - even with a well equipped toolshop and reliable plans. There are many parts that need to be hardened, precision ground and perfectly balanced if it should be more than just a proof of concept.

I've not seen many under $3000 and most are around $4000-$5000 for decent size.?
Edit: Ahh just Seen Gerry's post and confirms what I say it's nearly 3k.

D-man, not big enough for your needs but might be okay for some.

Any scope for adapting this to auto ?
