Final finished my mill conversion
http://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13794&stc=1
Using original lead screws but with home made Acetal nut on the X and Y axis's
http://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13793&stc=1
on the “Z” I have fitted a gas strut to counter act the weight of the head but left the pressure slightly high to control the backlash in the original cast iron nut, also adjusted the bevel gear meshing to get its backlash down to a figure that can be controlled by the software.
All axis's arefitted with 3.1nm stepper motors and timing belts; X = 1:1 Y = 1:1and Z = 2:1
the motors are driving all axis’s at a good feed rate and also cope with fast traversing.

The drives are set to half steps which give a resolution of 0.005 mm which is fine for my intended use.
Have fitted limit switches to all axis and am waiting for the emergence stop to arrive from Ebay.
All the best Steve
