Galss engraving/etching. Laser or engraver?
I was curious about the best methods for engraving or etching glass.
Would a standard 6040 cnc engraver with the 4th axis and a diamond tool in the spindle do a reasonable job?
Is a laser engraver a better choice?
Anyone have any experience with engraving on glass cylinders (glasses/vases etc)
I assume that a laser would struggle with anything that is not perfectly cylindrical - i.e. no tapered glasses.
Re: Galss engraving/etching. Laser or engraver?
Look at engraving systems such as Gravograph, a spindle system with a depth guiding nose surrounding it is used to achieve consistent depth on flat, curved and irregular surfaces.
I've built a sprung slide for my benchtop CNC mill which is driven with a pulley from the main spindle to utilise a micrometer depth adjustable engraving spindle which allows me to engrave 2, 3 and 4 axis jobs.
