Mill or Lathe??
Hi
I have a problem in trying to work out how to machine slots on the inside of a cylinder?? I'm trying to make a billet clutch basket I have a mill and lathe but my brain cant work it out, the inside diameter is136mm and the slots are 14.5mm wide and 6.8mm high there are 12 to do. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Mill or Lathe??
If the slots need square corners, then they'll need some form of slotting or broaching.
That could be achieved in a mill or a lathe with a suitable attachment.
As for the main machining of the cup, a lathe would be most suited, but it all depends on what machines you have available.

Re: Mill or Lathe??
That's a bit awkward,
Could be done in two pieces and then welded into the assembly, best option would be wire EDM.
Have a look on you tube, theres a guy who made his own machine and makes some excelent bits and bobs, keyways include.
You could make the sleeve and broach the keyways but its going to be a two piece assembly.
something to think about.
