Putting Neodymium Strong magnets near spindle ..is it ok ?

Hi

I have a small desktop cnc - Chinese cnc 3040 - and i want to attach a small flexible vacuum hose as a dust collector to the spindle assembly.

Is it ok to use some small but VERY strong Neodymium magnets screwed to the aluminum heat sink holding the spindle motor ? or will this affect the motor coils etc.

The machine is not really big enough for a dedicated dust boot.

I think that will be okay, it's a method used by many people. Velcro might be another idea if you don't fancy the magnets.

I have seen magnets used on frame below spindle but not on the heat sink next to the spindle

Air is a very poor conductor of magnetic flux and aluminium is not much different, so very little will penetrate the short distance to the electrical steel inside the motor. The flux density in the outside of the stator (the 'back iron') is generally low, so increasing a it a little shouldn't increase the losses in the motor noticeably.
