Tiny round over for edging
Hi guys 0/
I'm doing some small boxes 110 mm x 66 mm buy 30 mm deep, out of hard wood. I want to give it a nice round over as the boxes will be hand held. But I'm not sure what to use. I have a full router table and looked at the trend bits, the smallest I could find was :
Dimensions:
D=19 mm
C=3/8 inch
C=9.5 mm
B=9.5 mm
B2=12.7 mm
R=1/8 inch
R=3.2 mm
Shank Diameter=8 mm
I think 3.2 Radius might be to large, I'm really only trying to take of the sharp edges but I want it neat and sanding is a bit hit and miss.
Any suggestions on a bit that could work, I don't need it to be self guiding I can set the fence up to guide along.

Hi Fivetide
Long time no hear.
I got some small bearing guided roundover bits for doing the same job on Spilka spec windows i made for the house. Think i got them from Wealden tools.

If you can't find a smaller roundover maybe you could use a 45 degree cutter and adjust the fence so it was just skimming the arris.
2.4mm radius

Or you could make your own 'scratch stock' from an old hacksaw blade
Re: Tiny round over for edging
Just use a portion of the edge of Ogee or Ovolo cutter like Roman ogee or bead ovolo or maybe some other formed tool. It won't give full round over but just breaks the sharp edge.

You can get bearing guided 1/16" roundover bits.
Most major manufacturers make them.

GBP 2.93 all the way from sunny China, 1/8" rad just adjust hight and fence so it breaks the corner to your satisfaction.

Re: Tiny round over for edging
OK, I am confused here, not difficult I know but.........
What is the function of the bearing when used on a CNC machine?, surely it is not needed??, not like on a hand held router, or am I missing something here like I usually do??:biggrin:
