Power Supplies
I bought a controller/motor/driver/2xPower supplies set from ebay last week.. it's still on its way but I have realised that the kit I chose didn't have the power supplies in. Annoying! I thought it was a bargain :) It's too late to cancel so I need to sort out the power supply.
The kit I intended to get came with:
- 4 pcs Nema 23 stepper motor with 425 oz.in 23HS9442
- 4 pcs stepper motor driver DM542A, peak 4.2A, 128 micsteps, replacing M542
- 2 pcs Power supply 350Watts (36VDC/9.7A)
- 1 pc Breakout board & 1 pc Parallel cable
Does anyone have any recommendation for what I should get? Just replace with the same or would I benefit from a higher powered unit - or 2 higher powered units even?
Budget end of the spectrum by the way :)

Re: Power Supplies
You could make your own powersupply. I am sure I saw the diagrams on here somewhere. 36V is a good place to start but you could push the Nema 23s to 48V if needed.

Re: Power Supplies
I'll be honest - building a power supply doesn't do it for me :) I'm just going to go for an off the shelf solution.
Is there a good reason that 2 power supplies were part of the kit?

Re: Power Supplies
yes, they are both 350W which would limit the current that the total of 4 motors would be able to draw at any given time.
You could probably buy the same powersupplies that were in the kit locally too.

Re: Power Supplies
That was my suspicion but I thought a better quality higher rated PSU might have sufficed as opposed to 2xcheaper units

Re: Power Supplies
OK from what I can gather I need around 11.5A from the power supply. I have a choice of 2x 350w 7.3A or 1 x 600w 12.5A.. What is my best option?

Which option works out cheaper?

Re: Power Supplies
2 times the 350w would be my choice then ;)
