with all the other stuff to sort out like Mach, limits, home swithes and e stops you want drivers that just work.

I have to be honest guys i disagree a bit as it really all depends on your application. Using separates for a small router build with small nema 17's can be complete over kill. I started out with a Chinese combined board (yes you do have to persevere) and it worked fine for my needs. Agreed that separates give you a greater flexibility and cheaper to replace in the long run. But one thing for sure with a combined, you learn a hell of a lot about drivers and steppers :-). I would say that if your needs are small use one but DO NOT expect the earth.
