Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I just ordered a set of reamers for £12.99.
you get 9 reamers from 2mm up to 10mm all for £12.99.
I was very skeptical on the quality, but they look ok.
They came all individually on separate days by first class post, so have no idea how they are making any money because the postage came to more than the cost of the reamers.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Have you given each one a mic up to check they are where they are supposed to be size wise and do they run true enough to be used?? There has to be a fail somewhere, are you sure they are not hard sugar coated chewing gum?
-
Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I have only given them a visual check so far and our engineer will be looking over them later, but all i can think off is that its a mistake, because they are shipped from a Chinese warehouse in the UK and the postage costs more than the cost of the listing.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I did note what you said Gary. I looked at the listing and yes I think sure you are right. It's worth a punt at that money if they are ok for size and even not as hard as they should be. Probably Ok for for the guys on here and as its seems to be mostly to Ally they do.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Just ordered some - got to be worth a go at that price.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
3-10mm packs are even cheaper at £11.59 if you don't have a need to go as small as 2mm

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Funny. I had them in my wish list in banggood. They state there HSS M35 C0.5
Anyway, i prefer to buy them from Banggood as i had not had any problems with them, more or less they have some quality and shipping control.
And about the softness its for another thread of its own. but do you think it's normal to be able to cut with a hacksaw the shank of insert milling cutter for under 1 min time? :sorrow:

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Ordered. Nice to have someone to blame if they turn out to be crap.
OTOH I am becoming a real sucker, I just bought a 5" Axminster bench vice with added functionality on a whim and it seems to be okay, credibly heavy...

I don't think it is normal to even try :concern::concern:
I bought a set of these reamers and the first one arrived today. Why are they posting them as separate items ? The seller will only be getting grief from people (like me) who expected them all to arrive at one go !

Moi aussi! One 7mm reamer arrived today.
Most odd.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
So what's the verdict then? Good enough for the price, or complete junk?

It's not something I like to talk about.

I was reading an article recently about using the shank of old Morse taper drills to adapt for other purposes by sawing off the shank. Typically, the shank was left soft and only the cutting part was hardened. Not sure that the shank needs to be hard.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
My 7mm reamer arrived yesterday. More to follow hopefully . . .
If I get the chance today I'll mic it up.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I now have 2mm -> 10mm.
They have a gritty feel, may need a wash.

They are so cheap that i bought 2 of them . 1x 130mm long and the other one i cut in half for normal jobs. I think it's good enough reason, especially when now i have 2 sets of inserts, one for aluminum and one for steel and cast iron. I think even that the aluminum ones will be good for plastic. Just as a side note that these are side cutters, they can not plunge. and the 12mm one is one flute only

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Be nice to see a pic of them Boyan. Its not uncommon for shanks of that kind of tooling to be soft ish and are often are tough rather than hard, depends on manufacturer and quality but sometimes hard is not good and its promotes resonance rather than curing it. Most cutters like that you can't plunge with. but are perfectly capable of ramping and helical ramping to get the tool down if the machine will allow and take the load.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
The rest of the them arrived today in 2 more packets.
Measured the 10 mm reamer with digital calipers and they were 10.00 mm. I know there is a tolerance those calipers but it seems good so far.

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I've received two so far, in two separate envelopes... What a funny way to run a business!

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Same here, 7mm and 8mm Tried the 8mm as I had an 8mm dowel pin the try in the hole and it's a nice slide in fit.
Hopefully the other will come in the next few days.

Thank god for that thought i'd been ripped off.!! . . .Again. . . . . . only 7mm landed so far. Maybe it's like those Monthly magazines you get one each month and in no particular logical order. Lol
On Plus note can re-use the Jiffy bags so save few sheckles.,

Probably cheapest way to buy jiffy bags

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I got the 7mm one on Thursday and my first reaction was that I had misread the listing and it was only the 7mm one from a set. so I fired off a refund request and got the reply that they would refund £2 and I could keep the reamer. The rest of the set arrived on Saturday, so I cancelled the complaint and sent them a message that they were running their business in a twattish way (not my exact wording).
Either they are sending out from two different locations, or they have an idiot in charge.
Who cares ! The reamers are OK for the price.
Here's a question about reamers - I acquired a NIKKEN NCS tool bit that looks like a rotary broach, or a long shanked, downcut, slot cutter with a funny end, but it is marked 7.873 +/- 0.0126. I presume that this is calculated to make an 8mm hole. Am I right in this assumption ?

Rob,
They have to be to such a tight tolerance as they are made for putting candle holes in birthday cakes............................

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Possibly a precision drill used prior to reaming, the tit on the end locating in a centre drill hole in the job.

.
It's not a drill, it has a flat end

I think it is a reamer, but an odd size at 7.873mm :beaten:

As I said an odd size, unless 0.31" has some engineering significance. Maybe its a 0.3" reamer for 10 thou oversize :worked_till_5am:

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I ordered a set a day or so after Gary posted the first mention of these. First one arrived a couple of days later, then another the day after that. The rest arrived this morning, just as I was starting to wonder if the value of what was left was less than or greater than the cost of a telephone call... Strange delivery policy but then, in a world where I have bought a 78p digital panel voltmeter from China, delivered post free, who knows?

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I also ordered the set +some extra, so for 20 euro i will have 3-12mm covered. I was thinking that i will need some new 3-12mm drill bit set that is suitable , should be set where they go 0.1mm each next size, right? Or is there a set made to go with the reamers? So Do you know of something that will not break the bank?
-
Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
Yes, I would drill 0.1mm undersize for the smaller sizes, but maybe 0.2mm under for the larger (say, >6mm). Partly that is to make sure that the drill does not cut oversize although with new, good quality, drills that shouldn't be a big problem. If I'm not sure about the accuracy of a drill (typically if I have reground it and the point might be very slightly off-centre) I drill a slightly smaller hole first and then use the "correct" drill. It's more likely to be the correct size that way. Then reamer if needed.
You can probably tell that I don't do this professionally - the professional buys decent quality tools because time is money:smile:

I was wondering the same thing after my reamers arrived. The lookup tables show 0.1 or 0.2mm undersize is required as per Neales reply but I couldn't find a 'set of reaming drills'. Only standard sets which were in 0.1mm increments. Why isn't there such a thing as a set of reaming drill bits? Other option is to buy them individually from someone like Tracy Tools in the respective sizes for each reamer.

Not sure that I've ever seen such a thing. I suppose that it makes sense - like sets of tapping and clearance drills? - but the usual dealers just sell the 1-10mmx0.1 type sets. I've bought a few of them over the years; the "special" sizes tend to get replaced as needed and I use the other sizes for general non-critical work. I've used UK Drills as an online supplier and their stuff seems OK but you end up buying 10-off for most sizes...

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
OK ....I ordered a set and received two of them...about a week apart...lol.....but not had anything since. Anyone else still waiting for the full complement?
-
Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)
I'm still waiting for the balance, 2 delivered so far but away from home today so no idea if anything has been delivered today. I'll leave it until Tuesday or Wednesday and then put a claim in to eBay

Re: Set of reamers for £12.99 (Bargain)

I'm going for the £11.95 set:

Maybe this seller saves £1 by posting them in one lot...
