    Re: Spindle Speeds

I'm sorry but all this talk I keep seeing about keep winding it up until the tool breaks is total B@##~ks.! . . Just because the tool breaks doesn't mean you have found the limit. Tools can break for...

    Re: Spindle Speeds

I'm with Clive on this one. 3mm tools are cheap enough so keep the 1mm depth of cut (or maybe up it to 1.5mm, 50% of the tool diameter) and crank up the linear speed in steps until you break the...

    Re: Spindle Speeds

    How many flutes ??

That is way too slow. I don't know what machine you have but I would start by triple those speeds ie. 1800mm/min at 14000 rpm

Be prepared to break a few cutters.

    Re: Spindle Speeds

I once read a forum entry somewhere that suggested the way to set your feedrate was to increase it until the tool breaks then back off 10% and replace the tool. I prefer to use HSMAdvisor but it's a...

    Re: Spindle Speeds

Good point to check the required spindle power for a planned operation. As well as checking the spindle motor is powerful enough, it's often worth checking how much or little of its capability you...

    Re: Spindle Speeds

Usually if your smoking it's because your feeds are too low rather than spindle speeds being too high.

What size cutters are you using and in what material.? Give us some idea of the feeds n...

    Re: Spindle Speeds

The key is you always want to be cutting, never rubbing. This is something that applies to any material you're trying to machine.

Spindle speed is a product of how fast your machine can move,...

Re: Just blown up my inverter

Are you using the same spindle? Have you rewired the Plug on the spindle. What parameters have you changed?

Which vfd did you get as there are a few types? Pictures would help.

Re: Just blown up my inverter

    Also check this;

PD026 stopping mode, it should be set to 0 (decceleration stop)

Just to help things along in future, I would always let the spindle come to a standstill before pressing RUN...

Re: Just blown up my inverter

    That sounds good and correct.
    Pin 1 Phase 1
    Pin 2 Phase 2
    Pin 3 Phase 3
    Pin 4 Not Connected

The spindle needs checking out as cropwell explained.
    Regarding parameters I would change...

Re: Just blown up my inverter

    NO

I may be wrong - but - I do not see how it is possible to blow up an inverter by parameter setting. (This is an invite to members to point out otherwise:dread:)

    Re: Spindle motor

The water cooled Chinese spindle motor is way quieter than a router, however, there will always be some noise from the cutter as they spin very fast compared to a milling machine. Overall though it...

Re: How do I stop torn fibres

I'm certainly not a wood expert, but some types of wood will be worse than others - what are you cutting?

If using a v-point then it just needs to be as sharp as possible, if using endmills then...
