    Ok

    Thanks for the reply...

So the UC300 pulses at only 400,000Hz (four hundred thousand cycles per second).... What real world difference does this make?

    400,000 for the UC300ETH
    4,000,000 for the ESS.
Those are maximums, and you'd typically set them at lower settings, unless you need 4 million steps/second.
Most drives won't even work at those speeds.

    Yes just spotted my error...

So no real world difference then?

I've got HSS86H closed loop hybrid drives that only run at 200KHz so shouldn't be any kind of issue... BTW does anyone know where I can get hold of the closed loop software? The links don't seem to be active on the JMC downloads page...

In my opinion no difference at all. That is, unless you have super fast, very expensive drivers. My drivers (DQ542MA) can handle up to 200kHz. They can be used with 400kHz as well but because that's outside the specs I don't think it is a good idea, so I use mine with 200kHz.

Am I correct in thinking that one pulses equals one step?

If so then I pulse equals 1.8 degrees... therefore 200 pulses equals one full rotation... One full rotation equals 5mm (with my Chinese 1605 and 2005 ballscrews)....

    200,000 pulses (200KHz)/ 200 pulses x 5mm = 5000mm/s = 5m/s theoretical maximum velocity...

    Is this correct?

That depends on your microstep settings on the drive.

Ah yes of course there are the multipliers...

Still there is some margin there!
