Thread: Huanyang VFD repair

I have a toasted VFD (here is why and how) and as I was reading BriceO's post, I opened mine to see how bad the damage is and if it's possible to try repairing it.
What are the chances to get it running by replacing the toasted components and restore the damaged tracks? And what are the chances to have the problem somewhere else and have them toasted again after replacing? The remainder percentage is about being unable to identify and replace all the bad components...
Is it worth trying?

I used to repair switched mode power supplies and computer monitors, and hardly ever saw track damage like that. When we did, the device was scrapped as uneconomic.
You may want to see if you can get it going again, simply as a learning experience, but with that amount of track damage, I wouldn't trust it even if it appeared to work once you had found and replaced all the blown components.
Adrian.
