Thread: G54 and offsets

It is asked a lot on the forum what are offsets and G54,G55 etc. I came across this Vid which I thought might help some people understand what they are.

Surely an Offset is a difference from your machine basic standard in X, Y and Z?
Usually setting your standard with a particular probe, I use a 4mm edge finder with an appropriate sleeve to set the height as I need it.
With 5 tools you'd want 5 Offsets?You think that's too expensive? You're not a Model Engineer are you? :D
