    Hi Mike,

    Grub screws for leveling plates on uneven surfaces has been around a while so yes it would allow you to level the rails. I used the method on my lathe when setting up the DROs.
    As drawn though the grub screws are quite far away from the rail. They would be better tucked in as close to the rails as possible. Also the plate they sit on needs to be quite thick as you are relying on it to give stiffness between the rail out to the grub screws.
    For long thin parts such as rails I think the usual epoxy leveling method would be preferable.
