You don't have to use Roy's drivers either if you have a need for more powerful ones.
He does a small connector strip that plugs in instead of the driver.
Total cost will be a bit more that just buying a breakout board but the hassle saved is well worth it if you want the full system with spindle speed.
You probably save the extra though in not having separate power supplies especially if you run something like an X3 where it needs an independent supply for the spindle board or it fries the lot.John S -
