    Actually, I am not getting exactly what is the issue. You should have posted some images on this.
    However, there are wide varieties of paints in the market. You need to choose the best for you. Above all, use a wood sealer, and then you need to prime the surface with a transparent primer o avoid a mess on the project. I guess acrylic paint will be best to paint with. Hope it would help
