Analog output, sounds vague.

Could be a number of things.

Likelyhood is that it is a tachometer or encoder, both of which provide some form of voltage to indicate either speed or position.

How many wires? What does it connect to? If its the rear of the motor, normally this will be for feedback (tacho / encoder).
