Thread: Maybe my Mk 2 table conversion

So I completed my table conversion
http://www.mycncuk.com/threads/13746...ld-Deckel-mill
And indeed it runs reasonably (well in my opinion anyway)

I would welcome any comments particularly regarding potential improvement . ( I know I need to protect the limit switches cos they easily get bridged with chippings) guards were off for a reason when I took this .
It has been a great learning experience, and thanks to the help of a few folks here (you know who you are ) I can achieve rudimentary cambam drawings, and run simple milling routines , and I have found it very satisfying and indeed have learned a lot
So this table was initially a £40 lump of scrap iron and has its limitations as a result ( silk purses and sows ears spring to mind) but I like the principal of planting this kind of table on my old miller , It gives me quite a versatile solution for my limited space.
I am now hoping to move on and build an improved version based upon this table

So I need to learn a bit more and hope that you folks will keep me on the straight and narrow
For Starters :-
How do I calculate the correct sizes for the stepper motors to handle larger cutting forces as well as the greater inertia of the table.
Which motors and drivers should I choose ? Shoud I go to so called "servo" types

With regard to ball screws will 1605 be adequate
And generally with regard to quality of gear , should I be going to a British supplier , or will he just sell me (at an elevated price) the same gear as I could buy myself from china anyway
That should get me going . If you are able to give me the benefit of your opinion.
Thanks in Anticipation
PS I am only looking at the x / y functions at this stage . the spindle function will be needing a bit more thought so initially I will keep what I have got
