Thread: Extending Y axis on 6040?

Hi folks,
Just a question about upgrading my CNC 6040. I bought a machine off eBay earlier this year and swapped out for a decent control board. Very happy with it- it can shape banjo rims, fretboards and cut fine inlays far more quickly and accurately than I can!
Just pondering the potential of lengthening the bed? I would ideally like to extend the Y axis by about 50cm which would allow me to cut full size instrument necks. I've had a look and can find the required size linear rails, screws, bearing e.t.c. and frame material for a pretty reasonable price. I would add some extra feet to prevent sagging, and obviously lengthen the cabling a touch. Are there any particular issues that may arise with this that I should be aware of?
Many thanks for your time!
Will.
