Thread: EMCO F1P Conversion

Hi All,
I plan this to be the start of a build log of my conversion of my Emco F1P.
Here's the state of the machine when I got it. All the control electronics are gone but the steppers and spindle motor is included as well as 7 tool holders.
I started to clean up the machine a bit and removing the right hand side of the enclosure. First, the inside sheet metal needs to be removed which gives access to the nuts holding the side panel in place.
(The photo shows the left side panel)
Access to the X-stepper motor is then improved.
In order to get the motor off, the heatsink needs to come off. Then the bolts on the side of the table, the bottom two bolts holds the belt cover in place and the upper four holds the stepper in place. I had to fiddle quite a bit to get the belt off, the pulley on the stepper has two washers that keeps the belt in place. The washers are held in place with circlips and in hindsight it might have been easier to try to get hose off first but I managed anyway by moving the large pulley back and forth and move the belt outwards.
Here the X-axis stepper mounting plate.
And the pulley on the ball screw and the belt. The belt seems to be an MXL belt with 88 teeth and a width of roughly 19mm.
On the pulley there is a steel plug that the inductive sensor attached to the plate holding the stepper can detect each revolution.
The pulley on the stepper has 16 teeth and the stepper axis seems to be 6mm
The pulley on the ball screw has 80 teeth which gives a ratio of 1:5
Getting the inductive sensor off is easier if you know that the cylindrical part comes of and is a counter nut.
Next step is to remove Y-axis stepper and sensor.
