Hello all my name is David and I'm an old git academic who does not realise it yet :)
I have a Bridgeport J head mill I converted to ball screw on the X and Y axis with stepper motors and stepper motor drive on the Knee using existing acme thread, all running on Mach4 with ESS. It really works remarkably well and accurately thanks to "Muzzer" who pioneered the type of ball screw conversion I used. Also have a long bed 15" Colchester thinking of converting to ball screw and CNC sometime. Usual welding and workshop stuff.
Somehow I seem to be producing the metal stuff for large boat wing masts and booms just now, but my first love is fast cars.
I also build houses, raise grandchildren and collect academic qualifications.
We moved from the West Coast to the East Coast which is a big thing for a West Coast adopted Scot but not a traumatic as we feared as Eastcoasters are quite nice really.
Look forward to some interesting and informative discussions on CNC stuff.
