Hi All
First post so be gentle :-)
I have a MM32L that I have just done a spindle motor conversion on using a 3.6KW servo. I have upped the RPM from 2200rpm to 5000rpm and as you might imagine my bearings are getting a little hot. I have identified and ordered suitable high quality replacements for the quill drive so I then decided to have a peak in the main spindle body (looks a lot like a PM30 spindle)
I was expecting to see taper roller bearings but I see what I think are angular contact bearings. Has anyone else had experience of this machine and can confirm this. I am thinking I might just be able to re-pack them with the right amount of klubber grease and they would be good to go?
Attached are a couple of the bearing and the motor conversion.

Angular contact bearings are the most common bearings in spindles.
You might get away with repacking the bearings, however if they've been heated too much, then they may need replacing.Avoiding the rubbish customer service from AluminiumWarehouse since July '13.

That's interesting as most of the teardown videos I have watched on Chinese spindles of machines like the Precision Mathews PM30 etc all have had taper roller bearings.
Obviously spindles that are designed to run at higher RPM would have angular contact bearings but most of the manual mill spindles I have seen have taper roller.
Cheers
