Hello,
When I originally decided on this build I wanted to use as much of my old build as possible, but further, down the build process I get, I realised I didn't know what I was doing... One of the items I wanted to re-use was my AXBB-E, however, I realised it just doesn't have enough Input ports to use an ATC Spindle with, so I've now got myself the UC300eth 5LPT, with UCBB (breakout Board) using UCCNC. I have it working i.e. it powers on and I have movement on all Axis, but I really want to utilise the ATC Functions - but only have fundamental knowledge of the electrics.
My goal is to have a "Follower ATC" connected under the moving Gantry with a Pneumatic Valve that pushes the Tool holder out during the Tool Change and retracts back after it's done. I have seen this on Blue Elephant Machines and Mercury CNC Machines also have this style Tool Changer. I realise I would need a custom Macro (which I am looking at) and solenoid Valves to achieve this.
At the moment I just want to be able to wire the Spindle up for ATC and also the manual push-button tool eject and I will look at the "Follower ATC" at a future date
If anyone could give me a hand it would be appreciated.
My Spindle model
GDZ143X133-9L
I have the Spindle power hooked up U, V, W but nothing else....
This is my interpretation of the wiring (but I'm too scared to try it out in case I fry the bob) I'm not 100% confident where the wires go to be honest, I'm not sure if the should all go to the bob or some to the VFD?

I've only had a quick look, but the following things stand out-
- Shouldn't the push button lamp be connected to an output? (You'd ideally want some code so the button only illuminates when it's active)
- You have S1 and S2 twice (going by the fact they have 24V and 0V connections, I'm guessing these are inductive sensors, so you'll need to check how the output switches, but each will only need a single input)
- Is the temperature sensor a switch, or a thermistor? (I've not searched for a manual, but going by it having two wires, and there being a separate thermal switch on the power connector, I'm guessing it's a thermistor, in which case you'd need an analogue input to make use of it in the software)Avoiding the rubbish customer service from AluminiumWarehouse since July '13.

Hi again M_C,
I know you've helped me before with wiring, so thank you for coming back!
I've revised this a bit after looking at it again and reading your last post. Still not sure about certain ones, I've put ? next to them
With regard to the Temperature Sensor, I'm not sure there are a couple on the bearing front and back, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info for these. Then there is the Thermal Switch, which states it needs to be connected in series to the E-Stop system.
The Sensors are both PNP Proximity, N.O. Sensors.

I'm a bit more confused now, I've just decided to physically have a look at the Spindle and took the Cover off to look at the Wiring Terminals and they aren't like how they show in the Manual.
There are just 8 signal Screw Terminals plus U, V, W Power, and Earth
I also found this online which looks precisely like my set-up
and here's a pic of my Spindle with the cover removed

You'll need to redo your wiring diagram to suit.
You'd need to know the technical details for the temp sensor, but it looks like yours doesn't have one.
The thermal switch can either be wired into the E-stop system, or to an input that triggers a stop. The main thing is that the spindle gets stopped once it triggers.
The polarity of the 240VAC fan doesn't matter, and PE means Protective Earth.Avoiding the rubbish customer service from AluminiumWarehouse since July '13.

Ok here's my latest attempt.
ATC Wiring update.pdf
I think Pin 6 is now the Thermal switch, so I've added this to the input. As you stated, once configured in UCCNC, this should trigger a stop, shouldn't it?

Pin 4 should be a 24VDC supply, not an output.
If your spindle doesn't have a push button, and going by your photo, it does look like Pin 6 is a thermal switch, in which case once configured in UCNC, it should be able to trigger a stop.Avoiding the rubbish customer service from AluminiumWarehouse since July '13.

Ahh yeah, I'll change Pin 4 to Input, this Spindle does have a Push Button, although you can't see it in the last pic as I covered it with the pin-outs list, its in the previous pic (post no. 4) it just hanging down, it fell out when I took the cover off

6 years ago i purchased a chinese router ,but after a few years of random mistakes which i put down to the chinese controller , i purchased the uc300eth 5lpt board and the ucbb bob , i got that converted and running good , then i purchased a 6kw hdq atc spindle which i now have running on the router ,using the push button for toolchanges . i have a fixed probe and a manual probe ,a few days back i came across an m31 and m6 macro for semi auto toolchanges and having a play with those , later i will take a few photos of my setup and post them ,, i would eventually like a full atc setup ,but the macro side of things is way beyond my capability.

Hi Voyeger,
That would be great i'd love to see some pics and the fact you have a similar set-up to me is great too.
I'm not great with Macros either but I've been looking at them for a while now and have a few ideas, I just need to wire the Spindle signal side up to test them out..
I look forward to seeing your photo's, cheersLast edited by Phil Mayor; 6 Days Ago at 04:54 PM.
