Thread: ATC Pneumatics

  1. #1
Hi, again, I'm getting very close to actually running this machine now, done a lot of testing and so far so good, I'm getting closer to the end. I'm not 100 percent sure about the Pneumatic schematic drawing that comes with my ATC Spindle it suggests using a "pair of Mono-Stable Solenoid Valves in series," but I'm not sure what these are...?

I asume I can't just use a 5/2 Solenoid, I have a few spare ones ready to use??

    I've attached the Schematic here.

Also what is the reason for using two Valves...?

    Cheers,

That diagram looks like 3/2 valves, but I'm not sure why they'd have two in series, other than as an additional safety measure should one stick.
Nothing stopping you from using 5/2 valves instead.

Although what does the 4bar do?
Could it be that the diagram is wrong, and one of the solenoids should be controlling the 4 bar output?

    Hi m_c,

Judging by the rest of the manual, that is a good point. It could be wrong, though, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know either way. lol.

The 4 bar is apparently for the Cone cleaning, I think I've read somewhere that this has to be on at all times during operation to prevent dust/debris from entering the spindle...
At the moment, I think I'm going to try and figure out how to just use the Push Button for Manual Tool changes.

Once wired in, is there anything in UCCNC that I need to configure for the push-button tool release to work?

I would assume cone cleaning would be the air blast while changing tools, to ensure that the tapers are clean, which should only blast during tool changes, but it could be an air curtain type thing to keep dust out the spindle.
You'll find out soon enough once it's connected though.

I'd personally wire and configure, so the push button activates through the software, just to avoid any chance of the button being pushed when it shouldn't, however I've never configured UCCNC so can't comment on how to do that part of it.

Yeah it is like an air curtain i think, it helps keep the Spindle cool as well as keeps the chips away....

Great thanks, i plan to do it through the Software eventually, but just for a quick test I might do it direct, just to see if it actually works 1st, then if it does i can work out how to do it through inputs on the UCBB
