Thread: Back in the game!

1 Week Ago #1
Hi all. Returning to all things machining after a 4 year change of scenery and reckon this might be a good place to call upon as the memory refreshes.
12 years turn, mill/turn experience across material handling, quarry and mining, aerospace military and defence sectors. Have landed a machine shop position starting in the new year. Never got the full tour at interview stage but I believe there are 3 Mills and 3 lathes (1 flatbed). No runners here, alot of 1offs and less than 10offs. Setup and program heavy but perfect for me to get back into it.
Really looking forward to it. Coming from 7 years of imperial dimensions which was a pain in the ass converting from 5 years of metric, hopefully the transition this time is smooth. I know, 1st world problems right?
Have been revising all G and M codes, canned cycles etc particulary milling operations as its not something I ever had the opportunity to do before but am pretty sure i'll get plenty of VMC time in the new role.
Any advice from anyone who also had some time away and returned to the shop floor, i'm all ears. Thanks guys
