Hello all,
I'm an engineer by trade, cnc programmer although many years ago now into I.T.
Always enjoyed manufacturing, plan to build a gantry type router for machining wood/acrylic and possibly some light aluminium cutting, footprint around 2' x 3'
May have a pile of 8020 extrusion heading my way hopefully.
Biggest hurdle I reckon will be identifying and sourcing what I need (at the price I can afford) in a time that keeps my apetite at bay.
Looking forward to exchanging ideas and gathering info from you all. In exchange if I can help in some way with I.T. questions than i'll be glad to oblige.

Hi Ian,
Glad you found your way over here. Keep us updated, do you have any sketches of your proposed design?

Been all over the interweb looking for ideas, sources etc. and found this site for UK, so hoping to get some local help.
Pretty much settled on an 8020 build, using steel and carriage guides for X and Y, gathering materials still.
Going stir crazy over leadscrews/ballscrews, stepper motors and then driver card etc.
Once I get a few more materials together i'll probably start a build thread to seek answers to the questions. I reckon i'll be fine at the construction, it's putting the right bits together will be the problem.
