Just found this site today so thought I would join and say Hello.
I am trying to convert a Sieg X1 to cnc and have been trying for some years now. Main ptoblem is that I wanted to use ball screws on it but have had problems with the limited space on the X-axis but nearly there now.
I have x and y axis's working reasonably well nad almost a working z axis but not completely happy with it yet. I think I will have to fit some form of spring or pulley system to take some of the head weight to help in the upward direction.
I have also had problems with my very limited machining skills plus lack of tools. Every thing I want to do seems to need another raft of tools not that |I mind but retirement puts a limit on expendature.
So far I have been very impressed with the knowledge on this site expecially as it is in the Uk
Peter
