I've managed to get my laptop working on the parallel port and right now all 3 axis seems to be working fine even at the highest Velocity settings.
So the question is what benefit will I see with the SmoothStepper. Is it even possible to go faster?

Going faster would be the main benefit in your case.

But I'm already at the highest Velocity setting, are you saying that SS works independant of the Mach3 Velocity and Acceleration settings.

Yes.
As far as I know, the Mach3 settings will only go upto the maximum you're PP, or whatever output system you're using is capable of.
The SS is capable of speeds well beyond that of any PP, as it's capable of 4Mhz step frequency.
