here is a quick video of the tool post modification made to my chester 7x12 lathe.
Have to say that this is the best thing that i have done to the machine.

no i don't work or related to chronos but just want to share my experience of this modification.

Fitting a more substantial tool post is probably what made the biggest difference.
I know putting the model 100 from Arc on my Clarke CL500 made the biggest difference. I've still got the compound on mine though, as it's still all manual and it comes in handy occasionally, but I just leave it locked out to minimise any play from it causing problems.
As for parting off, insert tools are a must as they make parting so much less stressful. I can't remember the number of HSS parting blades I destroyed prior to getting a Q-Cut parting tool, and I'm still on the original tip!
