    Hi Guys
I'm planning to convert my manual Sieg SX2 mill (from arceurotrade). Having read round these forums and other sites I think I've got a rough idea of whats required.
I'm just planning on 3 axes.
Initially I want to use the original leadscrews (for x/y)
I envisage mainly milling aluminium, maybe some light work in mild steel.

    I'm thinking Nema23 steppers at about 2 - 3Nm will be OK.
Before I start spending, could anyone comment on these kits or suggest alternatives?

Does anyone sell the electronics/motors prewired and fitted in an enclosure?

Apologies if I've posted to the wrong forum or asked excessively dumb questions!
    Cheers
    Ian

Hi as ive got the system 4 enclosed from roy i can add it is very well built i had it build and running in half a dat took a bit of soldering but was pretty simple, just email roy and he is very helpful and quick at replying, onli sujestions is to get a higher voltage to speed up the rapids, but i find 1500mm a minute ample. Ive had it milling aluminium and steel! Hope this helps.

    Hi Ian,
For the X and Y 3Nm should be fine on ballscrews but on ACME you may need more, for the Z I'd go with something a bit bigger. maybe a NEMA34 4.5Nm...

For the Kit, I'd go to Zapp, the guys there actually know what they are talking about... If you give them a call and tell them that you want to convert a X2 they will be able to tell you what you need (Motors, drivers, BOB...)

Also, If you can afford it, change the X&Y lead screws to Ballscrews. It makes a hell lot of difference. No backlash!
Backlash is OK on Manual mill, but on CNC it is a killer!
