    I just used a few bits of steel bar to hold the dial indicator in the spindle, offset by an appropriate amount, then take 4 readings and compare to find the gradient in each direction. Those ones on eBay are just a gimmick.

    While I would agree that they are not really needed Jonathan I don't think I would go as far as to say they are a gimmick. It's a quick an easy way to set up so will work better for some people especially if time is a big issue. Oh & no I don't own one lol.
