    John,
    One thing that puzzles me is why is the back plate the stepper attaches to so thick.
    All the thrust etc must be taken by the angle bracket that the screw attaches to.

    the thickness of the metal dosn't look that thick! its just a box. I guess the box shape is to make it rigid and more importantly give space for the motor coupling?
