    Peter,
    On the other side of the nut from the 2 adjusting screws drill and tap for two more so you have 4 all on the same face.
    then get a piece of 3/8" thick Delrin and bore a hole in it centrally equal to the bottom diameter of the thread and bolt this onto the face of the nut block.

    then get a small dremel grinding disk and cut a couple of slot into the end of the thread at the opposite end to the drive. it won't hurt the thread as it never gets that far up.
    Use this as a tap to force a thread into the delrin, then lubricate and assemble in the normal way.
    The elastic properties of the Delrin will help reduce backlash and give some sort of preload to the thread.

    Not a perfect answer to your problem but a cheap one.
