On going chinese 6040 problems

yes Clive the manufacture instructions say to set it to

steps = 320
velocity = 2000
acceleration 200

but if i go anywhere near this it stalls

i have to set it to

steps =320
velocity 1000
acceleration 100

and at this i still get a bit of grinding sound some time.
