Thread: Shipping Container welding booth

Hi All,
I'm considering making a Welding Booth out of a 20ft Container, My idea is to place a 20ft container on to 2/3/4 axles to pull it around the yard this will just be a temporary solution to being able to mig/stick weld in the dry.
The reason its mobile is because the yard I store my trailers in, I have access to 3 phase power in multiple places in the yard, the yard is a busy yard in different areas at different times of the year, so I plan to go were the quiet spots are and pull the container back out to the parking area again.
My Questions are - Is this safe?
- How big of an extraction fan might I need?
- Is there anything else I might need to do?
- Is there any other recommendations?
- Could I make a fan?
I look forward to hearing from you guys, Thanks in advance.Gavin,

The extractor fan could not be so big as some would imagine. If i was doing it i would make it more local with adjustable arm and not so big funnel, there is some big lock line on eBay for this purpose. Couple that with "fan blower" , use that exact words on ebay search and you will be fine. Use "welding fume extractor" and maybe you will find cheap the hose part separately.
One thing is that i would make it portable though. So i could use it anywhere.

I have also thought about welding fume extractor. You need super flexible/adjustable arm and good fan.
Best is to guide the fumes straight to atmosphere. For now I just open some doors and windows or better yet work outside. Usually this light breeze is the best fume extractor for me. Angle grinder also works best outside :)

Welding Tent?
Easier to ventilate ;-) and possible to assemble around a job.
Put welding gear and bottles on a small trailer.

yes while a tent is a good idea I'm afraid the Irish weather during the winter WILL blow it away so I reckon my container may be safer :-) I am building the rest of me gear in to a 10x5x6'6 mobile workshop :-D
