I made up plates and then welded nuts to them. Seems to have worked fine, and saves a bit of tapping! I set the plates into the legs a short distance so that the nut is on the "outside" but more-or-less flush with the bottom of the leg; this way it does not rely on the weld to hold the machine weight.

Wouldn't mess about with tapping etc Just weld Nut on it's simple and easy.!!
