Hi there,
I'm about to build my second coil winder...it'll be loosely based on a couple of stepper motors contorolled by Mach3 & a user plugin I've found on the Artsoft website (which was only 80% complete)
the thing is...stepper motors aren't famed for high RPM, so it seems that 4:1 gearing would be prefereable using pulleys (this person has used a pulley system in his system

the thing is where can I source such pulley wheels & belts? (preferably with centre holes/bores that are stepper friendly....Argos don't sell em!
Many thanksLast edited by Lee Roberts; 12-07-2009 at 03:48 PM.

HPC Gears have a very wide range, including pulleys and belts. www.hpcgears.com.

Here's another one to try:

Good luck with the coil winder!
Nathan
I attached some DXF files of HTD pulleys if you want to try to make your own with your CNC router (maybe Delrin would work?)

Hi Ivan,
Thanks for that URL - that's a good selection they have there...I can't get the price list downloaded though (BTW, I've run out of 'thanks' credits today, else I'd have given you one too!)
Nathan ...excellent stuff...many thanks.

Wow Clanzer, what a involved bit of engineering - that must have taken you a fair while to knock up?
I'm almost embarassed by the '14 old' kludger effort that I've thrown together! (in my defence, I need something in place quick guv)
I'll get a vid posted up of my winder erhmm ...winding, when I get a chance. This was the outcome of its 'first wind' two nights ago...
Note: the acrylic bobbin th copper has been wound onto was homemade using scrap bits of perspex on my homemade CNC - pretty much my 'proof of concept' first attempt! It's a bit austere looking & it looks a little lopsided too! (a littl higher on the right!)
The winder itself still needs a little bit of 'tweaking' (for one, the helix M8 threaded rod pushed over the traversal stepper's shaft is somewhat 'out of true' as I don't have a lathe yet to bore/drill out the centre of the nylon M8 threaded rod!)Last edited by HankMcSpank; 11-07-2009 at 11:08 PM.
