Thread: Throw Away Cuters?

Hi,
Could someone explain what the difference is between 'throw away' bits and normal ones, please? I know the name probably says it all, but from looking at catalogues they seems to be perfectly normal mills only short. Why would I want to throw it away any sooner than another bit?

Not sure but they may well have less hardened cutting edge material so can't be Re-sharpened.? They tend to be cheaper, so meant to be cheap enough to use a few times and throw away when dull rather than re-sharpen.

They are called throw away cutters because basically they cost less than regrind.

Ahh I've never had an end mill re-ground anyway. In fact I always break them before they are blunt!
