its out of my workshop heater
markings on it VDE in a triangle

250V 16A
85 DEGREE C
where can I buy one from

I suspect it's a thermal fuse and what it came out of isn't working?
If I've guessed correctly the thing that doesn't work overheated ;-)

Its an over temp. safety cut off switch. You should be able to get one from RS components or a good Electrical wholesaler

Bi-metallic thermostat. Will carry up to 16 amps and opens at 85 degrees centigrade. Safety device to prevent over heating. They normally close when cooled down again but easily tested with a meter and a boiling kettle or pan.

makes sense what your telling me
one of the terminals looks to have overheated and come lose tried to solder it back
looks like a bad contact and caused the wire to overheated and become corroded
need to buy a new one thanks Geoff
